Labor Day Weekend September 1-2, 2007-
The Malama Punalu'u Culture and Music Festival was held at the Na'alehu Park and Ball Fields on Big Island, Hawaii. This festival was a great event featuring some of the best Hula dancers and Hawaiian musicians from all the islands. There were a number of Hula Halaus performing traditional Hawaiian and Polynesian dances. Local style acoustic Hawaiian musicians performed slack-key and other traditional Hawaiian music.
The event was held to bring awareness to the community and others about the many land preservation issues going on in the greater Ka'u commmunity, and to bring the community together in a fun, relaxing Hawaiian style way. There was lots of local da kine food booths with ono (good) food. Lots of local Hawaiian practioners were there to offer lomi lomi massage, farmers brought local plants for sale, and artists booths featuring Hawaiian art and hand-crafted instruments were everywhere.
